From promises to ambiguity: Trabelsi besieges the Ministry of Education with its responsibilities

The Al-Hadath – Baabda Public High School file returned to the forefront a month after the start of the academic year, amid criticism directed by Representative Edgar Trabelsi of the performance of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, describing it as hesitation and ambiguity as a result of the failure to issue a final administrative decision to decide the fate of the school, despite the prior announcement of the reversal of the decision to close and transfer it.

The Ministry had previously stated through the media that teaching would continue at Al-Hadath High School – Baabda, and the “Al-Akhtal Al-Saghir” and “Don Bosco” schools, in response to the campaign of objections to the closure decision. However, this retreat was not translated into practice into an amended and signed official decision, according to what Trabelsi confirmed.

The representative explained that the secondary school administration repeatedly visited the Ministry of Education and the Minister’s office during the past weeks, and it became clear that the amended decision had not been formally drafted or signed until this moment, which kept the administration in a state of administrative ambiguity.

This reality has had a negative impact on students and their parents, as a large number of them returned to high school to cling to their educational institution, especially in light of the inability of some families to bear the burden of moving to Kfarshima, at a time when there is continuing concern about the future of the academic year in the absence of any official decision.

The educational body was not spared the repercussions of the crisis, as teachers suffered from a state of loss regarding their future and their work positions, which prompted some of them to stop teaching, which directly affected the regularity of the educational process within the secondary school.

In this context, Trabelsi called on the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Rima Karami, to expedite the signing, issuance, and publication of the amended decision through legal means, to dispel fears and resolve the fate of the secondary school in a way that ensures the stability of students and the educational staff.

On a related level, the representative raised the issue of some professors joining teaching in other secondary schools where they were distributed without the issuance of official transfer decisions regarding them, considering that this procedure constitutes a clear violation of Decree No. 4234 issued on November 24, 2000.

Trabelsi concluded by warning of the legal and administrative repercussions of the continuation of this situation, especially with regard to the legal responsibility of the host principal and professor in the event of any emergency occurring within the school, calling for the file to be addressed with the utmost administrative and legal speed.
