On Thursday, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced that the organization of the first edition of the Women’s Club World Cup in 2028 would be assigned to the United States of America, during the FIFA Council meeting held in the Swiss city of Zurich.
The official FIFA website stated that the competitions of the inaugural edition will be held between January 5 and 30, 2028, indicating that the selection of the United States came based on its extensive experience in organizing international federation tournaments, its advanced infrastructure and integrated services, in addition to the great level of completion of women’s football by the actors in the country.
Regarding the qualification system, the Federation indicated that it will be determined based on the sporting results of the clubs in continental competitions during a four-year qualifying period, starting from the season ending in 2024 and continuing until the 2027 season, in order to ensure the highest possible competitive level in the tournament.
In a related context, FIFA decided to amend the dates for the final stage of the Women’s Champion Clubs Cup for the year 2027, so that its competitions will be held between January 26 and 31 in the American city of Miami. This amendment, according to the Federation, aims to enhance the tournament’s presence in the global football scene by holding the two semi-final matches on two separate days.
