The US Department of Energy announced that the administration of President Donald Trump intends to lend up to 315,000 barrels of emergency heating oil reserves, totaling one million barrels, in a move aimed at limiting the rise in energy prices as winter approaches.
This decision comes amid disruptions in energy supplies related to the war with Iran, which led to diesel prices rising to record levels exceeding $6.50 per gallon, coinciding with intense pressure exerted by parties in the Senate to take measures to ease the burden on consumers.
The Ministry explained that these quantities will be offered through a competitive mechanism directed to fuel distribution companies, with deliveries being completed no later than November 13.
This step coincides with the approaching midterm elections for the US Congress scheduled for November 3, at a time when some analysts express doubts about the ability of these limited quantities to have a tangible impact in reducing prices.
