Today, attention is turning towards a new round of negotiations, which has a different character than the previous ones. It will be entirely limited to the military and technical aspects, away from any political discussions, according to information from the “Lebanon Debate” website.
This round comes as a continuation of the issues previously discussed in the Rome rounds, as it is held in a format that limits the discussion to security and field files to present the relevant Lebanese demands. Unlike previous rounds, the negotiations will not witness direct and security follow-up by the Presidency of the Republic, given that the agenda is limited to the military and security aspect, which falls exclusively within the powers of the military delegation.
In a significant development at the level of negotiation management, Army Commander General Rudolph Heikal will not go to Baabda Palace, but will follow the course of the tour directly from his office at the Ministry of Defense in Yarzeh, through continuous communication with the Lebanese military delegation. The delegation is participating with the same formation without any modifications, headed by General George Rizkallah, to ensure continuity of work on the technical and security files at hand.
Regarding the agenda, the Lebanese delegation intends to re-present the files discussed in Rome, with a focus on the security aspect. At the forefront of Lebanese demands is the quest for American support to pressure the Israeli side, with the aim of enabling Lebanese farmers to access their lands and resume their agricultural work, which is hampered by restrictions and security conditions, as well as ensuring the protection of their livelihoods away from field risks.
In addition, the prisoners’ file will be strongly present within the negotiating process, in addition to the Lebanese delegation presenting official files and documents documenting the attacks, with the aim of presenting the data accurately to the concerned parties gathered in the negotiations.
Thus, the relevant circles are awaiting the extent to which the parties, specifically the American side, respond to the Lebanese demands to put pressure on Israel, paving the way for achieving tangible progress that addresses the urgent security conditions and the lives of citizens in the areas affected by tensions.
