The Ministry of Public Health, headed by Minister Rakan Nasser Al-Din, is seeking to reorganize the file of cooperation with private university hospitals, especially in the field of delicate and complex surgical operations. This step aims to establish precise scientific standards for determining and disbursing financial ceilings, and to ensure that funds are directed towards actual medical needs without placing additional burdens on the sector.
In this context, Nasser Al-Din chaired a meeting in his office at the Ministry’s headquarters that included representatives of a number of private university hospitals, where mechanisms for organizing hospitalization were discussed and scientific standards were adopted for distributing financial ceilings. The Minister explained that the plan seeks to transfer surgeries that are not available in government hospitals to private university hospitals, including: surgeries for scoliosis and scoliosis, organ transplantation, cochlear implantation for patients whose conditions do not respond to hearing aids, in addition to stroke treatment, nerve stimulation, and other complex operations.
To achieve this, Nasser Al-Din called on hospital administrations to provide the Ministry with detailed regulations that include the types of operations that can be performed and their numbers. This measure aims to set accurate and proportionate financial ceilings in the 2027 budget, so that they are directly linked to the capabilities of each hospital and the actual health needs. He also stressed the importance of identifying operations that can be implemented until the end of 2026, to benefit from the unspent amounts within the financial ceilings set for the current year.
The Minister of Health stressed the importance of building an effective partnership with private university hospitals, appreciating the vital role they played during the successive crises that struck the health sector. He revealed that the Ministry is cooperating with the Private Hospitals Syndicate to prepare a comprehensive study of the cost of hospitalization and treatments, in preparation for approving a new realistic and acceptable pricing that reduces the burden on hospitals and maintains the transparency of cooperation.
Nasser Al-Din concluded by pointing out that this path is extremely exceptional in light of the continuing increase in the number of citizens deprived of any insurance coverage, as a result of the worsening economic pressures and difficult living conditions.
