In a surprising move, the Friedkin Group, which owns the English club Everton, announced that the club was being offered for sale, only two years after it acquired it, according to local news reports on Friday.
The British newspaper “The Athletic” explained that American investors are now open to the idea of selling the club entirely. After their initial plan was focused on attracting investments in exchange for a minority stake, their destination turned into being fully prepared to give up the majority stake they owned.
The report stressed that the group will not take the step of withdrawing unless it finds a buyer capable of taking the team to a “new level,” stressing that the current owners will not rush the sale process, but rather will remain fully committed to supporting the club and maintaining control over it until the ideal buyer emerges.
It is noteworthy that the Friedkin Group had acquired, in December 2024, through its investment arm in the United Kingdom, Roundhouse Capital, the 94 percent stake of the former owner, Farhad Moshiri, a step that contributed to bringing financial and administrative stability to the club after many years of turmoil.
