The Secretary-General of the Lebanese Football Association, Jihad Al-Shahf, received the delegation of the Lebanese junior national team (under 17 years of age) upon its return to Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, carrying the title of the thirteenth edition of the West Asian Federation Junior Championship (Aqaba 2026), in a historic achievement recorded for the first time in the Lebanese football career for this age group. The delegation was also received by a number of union officials and a large crowd of players’ families.
The Lebanese team won the title after defeating its Yemeni counterpart on penalties (4-3), after the final match ended in a goalless draw.
The team began its journey in the tournament with a broad victory over Syria with four unanswered goals, then surpassed the Palestinian team with a clean goal, before suffering a single loss in the group stage to Yemen, 1-2.
In the semi-finals, the Lebanese team succeeded in overcoming its Jordanian counterpart on penalties after a goalless draw, setting a renewed date with the Yemeni team in the final match, and being able to avenge its previous loss, decisively winning the title in its favor.
