The National Economy, Industry, Trade and Planning Parliamentary Committee held its weekly session, headed by Representative Farid Al-Bustani, to shed light on the reality of the profession of mediation and representation in the commercial insurance sector, and to discuss ways to protect and develop it.
Al-Bustani confirmed, after the meeting, that the committee is continuing its consultations with all concerned parties to address the challenges of the sector, especially in light of the depositors’ crisis and the faltering banking sector. He explained that work is underway in coordination with the Ministry of Economy to reach a practical legal framework acceptable to all parties. He added that the discussions included listening to consumer complaints, indicating that the dialogues established a convergence of views towards developing “common ground” that can be discussed soon.
Regarding the judicial matter, Al-Bustani revealed that he is awaiting the issuance of the ruling in the report he previously submitted, which affects former Minister Amin Salam, his brother Karim Salam, and the head of the Syndicate of Accounting Experts, Elie Abboud, stressing that the case is now in the custody of the judiciary, which has the “final word.”
On another level, Al-Bustani praised the institutional performance of the Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Ahmed Al-Hajjar, in managing the file of the Utility Vehicles and Vehicles Registration Authority, especially in terms of completing the tender in cooperation with the Public Procurement Authority, which led to reviving the facility’s work.
In conclusion, Al-Bustani appreciated the visit of the Minister of Environment, Tamara Al-Zein, to the Chouf region and her keen interest in the file of firefighting, stressing the necessity of providing towns with the necessary equipment and supplies to deal with the recurrence of fire outbreaks in the region.
