Today, Friday, October 2, the Yemeni government warned that the Houthi group is running a parallel front for field escalation in Taiz Governorate that relies on rumors and misleading clips, accusing it of employing digital tools and artificial intelligence techniques to confuse the scene and negatively affect the morale of the armed forces and the popular incubator.
The Yemeni Minister of Information, Muammar Al-Eryani, explained that this “media and psychological war” is escalating in conjunction with the military movements in Taiz, with the aim of creating a false impression of the fall of military sites or the collapse of the fighting fronts.
Al-Eryani explained that the Houthi propaganda plan is based on creating fake accounts that impersonate the names of political and military figures to publish false statements, in addition to recycling old video clips and presenting them as documentation of current developments, and promoting misleading narratives through accounts linked to the group or impersonating personalities and components opposed to it.
The Minister of Information pointed out that the strategy does not aim to spread false news individually, but rather seeks to engineer an information environment that suggests multiple sources of the misleading narrative to push the recipient towards believing it. He warned against video clips of people speaking in local dialects impersonating members of the armed forces to broadcast messages that demoralize, such as talk about running out of ammunition, the absence of support, or the leadership abandoning them.
He added that the Houthis also rely on montage, digital manipulation, and artificial intelligence techniques to superimpose voices and comments on videos and present them as real testimonies from different areas in Taiz, which makes it more difficult to immediately verify them.
At the conclusion of his statements, Al-Eryani called for caution and not to republish any field content without verifying its source, date, place of filming, and context, especially with regard to the fall of sites or the withdrawal of forces. He also called for relying exclusively on official statements, military media centers, and professional media, warning against accounts created or impersonating public figures during times of crisis.
These warnings gain great importance in light of the coincidence of military tension in Taiz with frenetic activity on social media platforms, and the use of advanced technologies to produce fabricated materials that are difficult to distinguish from reality, which doubles the urgent need to verify original sources before circulating any field content.
