British police announced on Friday that they had formally charged two men with Iranian nationality with planning to carry out a terrorist act targeting members of the Jewish community in the city of Manchester.
Investigations revealed that the accused are: Salam Ahedian (36 years old, residing in Liverpool) and Rahman Salehi (34 years old, residing in Salford). They were arrested in Manchester on September 20 last year.
The anti-terrorism police revealed that the accused were in contact with a third party residing abroad, likely located in Iran, as part of the coordination of the terrorist plot that was successfully thwarted. While the authorities refrained from revealing the nature of the attack or its specific goals, police official Vicky Evans confirmed that any direct threat to public safety had disappeared due to this case, calling on citizens to maintain their vigilance and inform the authorities of any suspicious movements.
This announcement comes about a year after the bloody attack that targeted the “Hebrew Complex” synagogue in the Heaton Park area, north of Manchester, coinciding with the worshipers’ commemoration of “Yom Kippur” (Atonement), which occurred on October 2, 2025, and resulted in the killing of two people after the perpetrator used a knife and a firearm.
It is noteworthy that during the past year, Britain witnessed a series of attacks targeting Jewish sites or other sites linked to Israel.
