Member of the “Strong Lebanon” bloc, MP Edgar Trabelsi, raised the issue of the ongoing delay in completing university degree equivalencies with the Higher Education Equivalency Committee of the Ministry of Education, warning of the negative repercussions of this delay on the future of Lebanese youth and their professional opportunities.
In a statement published on his account on the “X” platform, Trabelsi described the current situation in the committee as “an unacceptable matter that cannot be tolerated,” noting that completing a single equation transaction now takes a period ranging between one and two years.
The representative wondered whether officials were aware of the extent of the harm caused to the younger generation, pointing out that the delay in issuing equivalencies and permits to practice the profession exposes many applicants to the risk of losing their jobs.
In his response to the proposed solutions, Trabelsi downplayed the usefulness of relying on platforms or electronic registration, considering that they are merely simple mechanisms to facilitate the submission of applications and do not touch the essence of the crisis. He denounced the continuation of bureaucracy, saying: “How long will we remain forced to review each equivalence application individually? Something must change radically.”
Trabelsi raised question marks about the hidden reasons behind this slowness, fearing that it might result from the complexity of procedures, laziness and negligence, a shortage in the number of employees, or even suspicions of corruption.
The representative concluded his call by appealing to the professional unions, specifically the unions of engineers, doctors, pharmacists, and nurses, to take action and firmly object to these practices that stand in the way of the future of young people and hinder their career path.
