The radio explained that the rise in fuel prices and the large influx of Chinese solar technologies contributed to redrawing the map of the energy market on the African continent.
She explained that solar energy capabilities in Africa jumped by 54% during 2025, with the addition of 4.5 gigawatts of new capacity, attributing this to the decline in the prices of solar panels and batteries manufactured in China.
She pointed out that African countries are resorting to reducing dependence on imported oil and ensuring access to electricity, relying on available solar energy products.
In Nigeria, the radio says that the electricity network only provides power for about seven hours a day, while about 22 million electric generators operate on diesel or gasoline, and the cost of operating these generators amounts to about 12 billion dollars annually, making Chinese solar energy products an economical alternative, as well as a more environmentally friendly option.
The radio indicates that China is not limited to exporting solar energy equipment, as it is financing and building dams, wind farms, and solar energy plants, from Egypt to South Africa.
