The Minister of Labor, Mohamed Haider, chaired a meeting of the Indicator Committee in the presence of the Chairman of the Economic Bodies, Mohamed Shukair, the President of the General Labor Union, Bishara Al-Asmar, the Director General of Social Security, Mohamed Karaki, and a number of official, economic, and trade union figures, to discuss the living crises and their repercussions on workers and employers.
Minimum wage and transportation allowance Minister Haider explained that the discussion on the “minimum wage” will be completed in light of a comprehensive study examining economic and security developments and the significant increase in the cost of life, stressing the committee’s endeavor to reach an agreement that achieves a formula that suits everyone. As for the “transport allowance” file, Haider announced the formation of a specialized committee to prepare a scientific study aimed at establishing a permanent mechanism linking the transportation allowance to fuel prices up and down, to avoid circumstantial treatment and secure workers’ rights in light of high energy prices.
Family compensation, insurance file, and hospitals In social affairs, the committee discussed the issue of raising “family compensation,” provided that the exact numbers of available funds will be presented in the next session to take the appropriate decision. The meeting also touched on the social security situation, stressing the need to find a quick solution to the technical body’s compensation in cooperation with the fund’s management and the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
In the hospitalization sector, the Minister of Labor issued a strong warning to the hospitals contracting with the insurance, stressing that they are fully obligated to receive the insured and not burden them with any additional financial burdens in violation of the contracts. He revealed that the Warranty Department and inspection bodies will follow up on any violation very seriously, leading to taking strict legal measures that may lead to termination of the contract with the violating hospital.
Haider concluded by stressing that the Indicator Committee will continue its regular meetings, with the date of the next session set during the month of October to follow up on resolving these urgent issues.
