Lying has become Hezbollah’s only defensive strategy in which it has succeeded, since its victories turned into fragile linguistic material that is recycled instead of being reaped in the field. The Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Sheikh Naim Qassem, fabricated a statement attributed to Moshe Yair, to the effect that the “resistance card” is the only card owned by the Lebanese state, is nothing but one of a long series of false claims in the “party’s” archives.
The “party” had previously promoted the character of “Officer Allon,” as the mastermind of the Israeli spy networks in Lebanon, while investigations showed that “Allon” was not a single person, but rather a nom de guerre circulated by an Israeli intelligence unit, and was only an operational code without a single identity. However, he was presented to the “resistance” audience as a spy hero with specific features and a complete biography.
The same pattern applies to a quote attributed to former Israeli Chief of Staff Danny Halutz about the “total defeat” in the July 2006 war, which was originally nothing more than an opinion article written by a military analyst in the Maariv newspaper, before it was reformulated and turned into a “confession” directly attributed to Halutz.
In 2019, the party’s media published news about the injury of the commander of the northern region, General Aviv Kochavi, as a result of an attack with anti-tank missiles. It turned out that what happened was an elaborate field trick to fool the “party” into the success of the strike and prevent escalation, while Kochavi was alive and well and carrying out his duties normally, and he appeared in televised leadership sessions on the same day.
In August 2021, when there was an exchange of bombardment between Hezbollah and the Israeli army in the south, the party’s former Secretary-General, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, announced at the time that the operations had forced the Israeli army to completely evacuate its border positions, while the Israeli army was redeploying tactically in a calculated manner to protect its vehicles from anti-armour missiles. The Jal al-Alam and al-Abad barracks remained operational, supported by monitoring systems and drones.
The list goes on. In July 2022, the “party” announced sending marches towards the Karish field platform, and published a video clip that was presented to the public as a live recording taken by the party’s marches. However, the video clip was nothing but old promotional material produced by the British company Energean, which operates the field, to which graphics of a fake targeting screen were added.
As for the first support war, in 2024, Nasrallah announced in January that the Meron Air Base had been completely targeted, with direct hits resulting in the destruction of radar monitoring devices and the disruption of the strategic observation center. However, according to available data, the damage was external, while the base continued its work in air traffic management, and the main control rooms were not damaged that put them out of service.
The invincible myth of the “party” collapsed under the weight of its own delusions, in a discourse based on compensating for the deficit with an abundance of illusion, and on narratives of fabrications that harmed those who believed them above all others, to the point that many of them today are displaced in the open.
