In light of the continued Israeli attacks on a number of southern villages and towns, and the accompanying destruction and bombing of homes and property, the southern issue was once again at the heart of official consultations, during a meeting between President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam at Baabda Palace.
Aoun received Salam, where they presented the general situation in the country, with a special focus on developments in the south in light of the continued Israeli attacks and the destruction and bombing of homes and property in a number of villages and towns.
The discussion also dealt with the visit of the head of the Military Coordination Group for Lebanon (MCG4L), General Joseph Clearfield, as part of the follow-up related to the security and military file and the current developments in the south.
Clearfield had visited Baabda Palace and met with President Aoun, as part of his contacts related to the procedures related to implementing the understandings related to the situation in the south, especially in light of the talks he is holding with the Israeli side.
During the meeting, Aoun and Salam also discussed the topics on the agenda of the Council of Ministers session scheduled today in the Government Palace, within the framework of coordination between the Presidencies of the Republic and the government regarding the files that the session will discuss.
The meeting comes at a time when the south is still witnessing successive field developments, with the continuation of Israeli operations in a number of villages and border areas, in parallel with political and military contacts aimed at following up on mechanisms for implementing the understandings related to the region and controlling the field situation.
Clearfield’s visit gains importance in this context, given the role played by the Lebanon Military Coordination Group in following up on procedures related to field arrangements, at a time when the Lebanese state continues its contacts with the aim of stabilizing stability, stopping attacks, and protecting villages and property in the south.
