Tips for the rug to postpone the Beirut Conference 1: No project is ready except for Qaliaat Airport

“Al -Akhbar” wrote: Some members of the employers’ bodies asked the Minister of Economy Amer Al -Bassat to postpone the economic conference that he intends to launch on November 27. They justified these objections that the timing is inappropriate, as the political and security conditions in Lebanon and the region did not mature a consumable contract that seeks to attract investments, in addition to that economic recovery in Lebanon cannot be launched, in their opinion, except after addressing the consequences of banking and critical collapse.
Minister Al -Bassat had made a detailed offer on his economic vision of Lebanon within a period of ten years, based on the restoration of the existing model and pumping 120 billion dollars of investments to feed the growth of the economy until the size of $ 60 billion in 2035.
According to what Al -Bassat said in a meeting with the employers’ bodies in the Economic and Social Council last July, 80% of the expected investments will come from the private sector and 20% of the public sector with an average of 12 billion dollars. The vision of the rug depends on strengthening tourism in Lebanon and the service sectors related to it, and with less interest in the agricultural and industrial sectors, but he did not provide the positive reasons that will push these investments towards Lebanon.
In light of this vision, the rug informed the members of the bodies that he would launch the “Beirut 1” conference to attract investments, striking it on November 27. However, some members of the bodies discussed later on this date, with their approval of the origin of the idea, considering that the timing is not appropriate at all, not in terms of stabilizing the security situation in Lebanon with the increasing Israeli strikes and internal cramps, in addition to the instability in the whole region. They also stressed that no investments can be attracted without ending the related file since 2019 related to the banking sector.
A prominent member of the bodies told Al -Akhbar that the hopes that the minister holds on the conference will not be achieved “because such a move is restricted by a set of external political demands required from Lebanon, such as the application of the 1701. The application of this agreement is the basis for the reconstruction process and in attracting investments as well. ”
This employer indicates that Arab tourism in Lebanon was relatively acceptable this summer, but he notes the absence of Saudi nationalities from Lebanon. In his opinion, this absence is “very important, if the minister is the rug seeks to attract investments.”
Although the minister received advice to postpone the conference from members of the bodies, “there was no unified decision of the bodies on this matter”, but the protesters believe that the mobilization that the minister promises the rug and his personal guarantee to attend a number of leadership figures in American institutions and from Arab countries, will not be sufficient in the framework of the required, especially since Lebanon is no longer any regulations for the investments that will be presented in the conference, and there is no ready project For investment except for Qulayat airport.
