The Lebanon Electricity Administration confirms its commitment to improving nutrition since the first day of assuming its duties

The Chairman and members of the Board of Directors of the Electricité du Liban Corporation issued a statement in response to what was discussed during the session of the Parliamentary Public Works and Energy Committee regarding the restarting of the Zouk and Jiyeh plants, and the subsequent media statements.

The statement denied the validity of what was raised about the existence of a division within the Board of Directors regarding the restarting of the two factories, stressing that the president and members are continuing their duties in the spirit of cooperation and institutional responsibility in order to preserve the interest of the institution and the proper functioning of the public facility.

The statement indicated that holding council members personally responsible in advance for any potential technical malfunction after operation ignores the legal distribution of powers and obligations, explaining that responsibilities are determined in accordance with laws, regulations, contracts, and technical facts, and do not arise automatically simply by making an operation decision.

He pointed out that the member of the Board of Directors in charge of following up on the file, Engineer Samer Hosnia, presented a detailed technical presentation based on the data of the institution’s management and the “MEP” company, indicating that the report of the relevant committee will be presented to the Board of Directors next Monday to study it and make the appropriate decision. He considered that pre-empting the Board’s decision or imposing operational consequences on it before completing the study of the file lacks objectivity.

The Council confirmed that it has been seeking, since assuming its duties, to increase electricity production and improve nutrition to reduce the burden of private generators on the Lebanese, based on technical assessments, safety requirements, and operational feasibility. He explained that the competent authorities and the operator are responsible for implementation and technical responsibilities, while the Council exercises its reporting and oversight powers, putting the safety of the facilities at the top of its priorities.

The Council revealed that it is facing obstruction attempts from parties inside and outside the institution for purposes that do not serve the public interest and hinder efforts to increase production and oversight, stressing that these attempts will not deter it from performing its duties.

In conclusion, he called on the Board of Directors to seek accuracy and objectivity, and not to anticipate technical and administrative results or question decision-making mechanisms, stressing that it will continue to exercise its powers based on technical and legal data and the public interest in accordance with established principles.
