After the earthquake of Afghanistan yesterday … a geological expert recalls a earthquake that took place in Lebanon in 1956!

Geological expert Tony Nimr wrote, in a post on his account via the “X” platform: “How can an earthquake of 6 degrees such as the one who struck Afghanistan yesterday night to lead to this amount of victims and destruction?”
He continued: “The main reason behind this result is the nature of the non -coherent geological classes in the earthquake area, which leads to the interaction of seismic waves violently with the facilities, as well as the quality of the structurally weak buildings.” He added: “It is worth noting here only for comparison, that on March 16, 1956, a 5.8 -degree earthquake struck Lebanon, which was the point of Marj Basri, and led to a great destruction and 137 people were killed, most of them in the areas of Jezzine and Chouf.”
