Oppo is preparing to enter a new race in the foldable phone market, with the development of a phone with a wide foldable design that seems to reflect a shift in the trends of this category of devices, at a time when major companies, such as Samsung, are moving to adopt similar designs, amid expectations that Apple will also enter the foldable phone market in the future.
According to leaks published by the well-known leaker Digital Chat Station on the Weibo platform, the upcoming phone will come with a shorter and wider design compared to traditional foldable phones, similar to what is rumored about the next generation of the Galaxy Z Fold series, which may provide an improved experience in watching videos, browsing the Internet, and playing games.
Advanced processor and large capacity battery
Leaks indicate that the phone will work with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 processor, which has not been officially announced yet, and carries the model number SM8950, in addition to the presence of a processor dedicated to artificial intelligence tasks, with the aim of enhancing the capabilities of processing artificial intelligence models directly on the device without constant reliance on cloud services.
The device is also expected to include a battery with a capacity of approximately 6,500 mAh, with the possibility of using silicon-carbon technology, which allows for larger batteries in thinner designs, a technology that has begun to spread in leading phones from Chinese companies.
Possible launch in 2027
According to reports, the phone may be unveiled during the first quarter of 2027, but the information currently available does not include details about the size of the screens, camera specifications, or the final dimensions of the device.
Oppo is expected to benefit from its previous experience in the Find N series, which presented foldable designs with dimensions different from competitors, and received praise for the use experience and practical form of the device.
Will the new phone be Find N7?
Oppo has not yet revealed the brand name of the phone, but some expectations indicate the possibility of launching it within the Find N series under the name “Find N7,” or presenting it with a new name in line with the company’s trend towards redefining the design of foldable phones.
Although the concept of a wide screen seems to be a recent trend in the market, Oppo has previously presented foldable phones with dimensions close to this design, such as the Find N and Find N2, which adopted an aspect ratio closer to the square shape compared to some competitors.
Why are companies moving towards wide foldable phones?
Analysts believe that the wide design may give users a more comfortable experience in watching content, using multiple applications at the same time, and browsing websites and games, especially since many applications were originally designed to fit wide screens.
However, the success of this type of phone remains linked to the extent of its ability to provide a practical experience in daily use, in addition to the improvements that companies will provide at the software level to take advantage of the new screen spaces.
