4 extra hours for your battery.. "Google Maps" Launches a feature for drivers

Google announced the launch of a new feature in the “Google Maps” application aimed at confronting the problem of smartphone battery drain during navigation, which is the “power saving” mode feature. The company confirmed that this new mode can add up to four hours of battery life during long trips, which enhances the efficiency of use for extended periods.

The feature is based on a simplified black-and-white interface, where unnecessary visual elements, control buttons and speed information are removed, leaving only essential data such as itinerary, next direction, and expected arrival time.

This interface works on the lock screen to reduce the screen’s power consumption, noting that this feature is intended exclusively for driving mode and does not include walking or cycling.

Users can activate the feature via the navigation settings within the application or directly by pressing the power button to switch to the simplified interface, while the mode is automatically turned off when the destination is reached.

This step comes in response to users’ complaints about the high power consumption resulting from the continuous operation of the GPS system and the screen lighting.
