Lebanon has a crucial days: a short period of solution or … war!

Nadia Ghusoub – Call of the homeland
Lebanon is going through these days with an accurate stage that may be the most sensitive in its modern history, after officials received a clear message from the American delegate Tom Brak. The message is unambiguous: You have a short period of time to present an official position on the issue of Hezbollah’s weapon, with a clear commitment to actual steps that end the reality of weapons spread outside the framework of the state.
The American move is not new, but this time it seems to be more serious. The proposal bears a practical and pressing character, based on a reciprocal principle: a step from the Lebanese side, which is corresponding to a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from some southern regions, and a stop of air strikes. On the other hand, it is assumed that the Lebanese government will adhere to a real plan that restores weapons to the state.
Through several meetings he held in Beirut, Barak presented a similar “conditions paper” to the government, stressing that the delay in the response will only be understood as a retreat from any reform intention, which means losing international support at all levels, from reconstruction to financial aid and political stability.
It is not hidden that the Lebanese army had previously prepared a comprehensive field proliferation plan in the south and raised it during these meetings. However, the essence of the issue not only stops at the technical aspects, but rather extends it to accurate political accounts, especially in light of the internal division.
The American proposal clearly revealed the division within the Lebanese political circles. A team that sees the offering a rare opportunity to restore the concept of the state, and to devote sovereignty as a principle that is not compromising. As for the other team, at the forefront of “Hezbollah”, it is seen as an external pressure aimed at the balance of the Lebanese interior, and sees it as a direct threat to its role and location.
In a related context, the statements of US President Donald sparked Trump Wide attention two days ago, as he talked about a “golden opportunity” for Lebanon to rebuild its economy and restore its regional position, noting that his country is ready to support Lebanon politically and economically if the government adheres to serious reforms, most notably the control of weapons in the hands of the state. Trump stressed that “Lebanon deserves to flourish, but there is no prosperity without clear sovereignty.”
In an indication of an increasing external interest in the Lebanese situation, well -informed sources reported that American businessman Ilon Musk had directly contacted the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, dealing with opportunities for cooperation in the communications and Internet sectors, conditional on the establishment of a minimum security stability.
These international indicators show that the frequency in resolving the weapon file will be met with a decline in external support, not only at the financial level, but also in the areas of innovation and digital economy, which many rely on as an opportunity to save Lebanon. From here, the coming days appear to be articulated in determining whether Lebanon will invest these opportunities, or will remain hostage to internal accounts that all the possibilities of rise.
In a related development, information indicates that a prospective meeting will be held between the three presidents and a number of ministers to try to reach a unified position, in light of a race over time. Everyone realizes that any decision will not be easy, but it will be decisive in determining the country’s path.
Today, the frequency is no longer a luxury, nor the maneuver is possible. Either the difficult decision is taken in the name of the state, or Lebanon is left for more chaos and ambiguity. The question now is not only: Who decides? Rather: Is there anyone who still has the state’s decision?
