A fisherman used dynamite to catch fish on Naameh Beach on Sunday morning, October 20, before security forces intervened and caught him red-handed.
In detail, the Mount Lebanon Beaches Detachment received, at around nine in the morning, information indicating the presence of a fisherman who was fishing with explosive materials, and who had a history of the same crime. Immediately, security personnel began investigations and headed to the site, where they spotted a man who met the description and arrested him.
The inspection resulted in the seizure of a piece of dynamite weighing about 200 grams, connected to a fuse and ready to be detonated near the detainee, in addition to a plastic bucket containing a quantity of fish that the examination revealed were caught using explosives.
During the investigations, the detainee, called “Imad Ali Ali” (born in 1971, resident of Haret Al-Naameh), admitted that he went to the beach at about eight o’clock in the morning with two pieces of dynamite. He admitted that he lured the fish with bait and blew up the first piece to collect his money, before the security patrol surprised him while he was preparing to blow up the second piece. Regarding the source of the explosives, he explained that he buys the raw materials from fertilizer shops and manufactures them himself, denying the presence of his partners, and at the same time confirming that he had previously been arrested for a similar crime, and without being subjected to any pressure during the investigation.
For his part, the Public Appeal Attorney in Mount Lebanon, Judge Ghassan Bassil, was briefed on the course of the case, so he ordered the arrest of the suspect, the seizure of the piece of dynamite and its delivery to the competent authorities for processing, with a specialized patrol being assigned to receive it. The detainee was transferred to the Saadiyat police station due to the lack of glasses at the detachment center, while the necessary legal measures were requested to be taken regarding the seized fish. An examination of the records showed that there were no previous criminal reports against him, despite his admission that he had previously been arrested in a similar case.
