Microsoft has begun offering Xbox mode for Windows devices, with the aim of providing a gaming experience closer to specialized console gaming devices through an interface that occupies the entire screen and is optimized for compatibility with hand controllers.
The new feature offers an interface similar to the “Big Picture” mode on the Steam gaming platform, as it focuses on a unified game library that brings together games from multiple sources, such as an Xbox Game Pass subscription and game stores on the computer, with the ability to easily browse and play them from one place.
Microsoft also allows the use of the Xbox toolbar within Windows, and quick navigation between applications through the new interface, which is designed to work smoothly on laptops, desktops, and tablets.
This mode first appeared under the name “Full Screen Experience” on Asus ROG Xbox ally x portable gaming devices, before it has now gradually expanded to all Windows 11 devices. The company confirms that it relied on user feedback during the first stage of developing this feature across various devices.
Microsoft allows you to easily switch between Xbox mode and the traditional Windows 11 interface at any time, without the need to restart the system, which gives the user flexibility in using the device whether for games or daily tasks.
Microsoft explained that the launch will begin gradually in specific markets, and will expand in the coming weeks. Users can obtain the feature as soon as it is available by activating the “Get the latest updates” option within the Windows update settings, then installing the latest system update.
Through this update, Microsoft seeks to reduce the gap between playing games on computers and Xbox platforms, through a unified interface that focuses on ease of access and performance, with promises of further improvements based on user experiences during the next stage.
