In a strongly worded statement, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam denounced the targeting of journalists in southern Lebanon, describing these actions as amounting to clear war crimes.
Salam explained that targeting journalists, obstructing rescue teams’ access to them, and even targeting their locations again after the rescue teams arrived is considered a serious violation of international law, stressing that these are not just individual incidents, but rather a repeated and confirmed pattern.
He stressed that Lebanon “will spare no effort in pursuing these crimes before the relevant international forums,” expressing its rejection and categorical condemnation of what it described as attacks on media professionals while performing their duties.
Salam also offered his sincere condolences to the family of the late journalist Amal Khalil, her colleagues and friends, and to the Lebanese media family, wishing a speedy recovery to journalist Zainab Faraj.
This position comes in light of the increase in attacks targeting journalists in the field, which once again raises the issue of protecting them and ensuring their safety while covering events in conflict areas.
