The Minister of Finance comments on the drug shipment seized at the airport

The Minister of Finance, Yassine Jaber, praised the effective coordination between the Customs Administration and the General Directorate of Public Security, which resulted in thwarting the largest drug seizure in the history of Rafic Hariri International Airport, stressing the importance of enhancing cooperation and exchanging information between the various security agencies to protect Lebanon and the safety of its community.

Minister Jaber praised the exceptional efforts made by the customs police personnel in uncovering complex concealment and camouflage methods, and thwarting the attempt to pass the cocaine shipment that had been professionally prepared to avoid detection through optical scanners.

He explained that conducting customs formations falls within the context of activating customs work, strengthening control over land, sea and air crossings, as well as intensifying the pursuit of smuggling networks at home, stressing that customs responsibility extends to protecting the health and safety of citizens, and preserving the rights of the treasury and the national economy.

Jaber concluded by saying, “Enhancing the effectiveness of customs and integration with the relevant agencies contribute directly to protecting Lebanon’s reputation abroad and strengthening confidence in its ability to control its outlets and combat smuggling and organized crime.”
