Security reinforcements and a warning from Washington following the Karak attack amid mounting fears

The US Embassy in Jordan raised the security alert level, calling on its citizens to exercise the utmost caution and follow developments and instructions issued by local authorities, against the backdrop of the armed attack that targeted a Greek Orthodox church in the village of Hammoud in Karak Governorate.

The embassy explained in a security alert that the capital, Amman, and other areas are witnessing a tightening of security measures, especially in commercial centers and the vicinity of foreign embassies, expecting to observe a wider deployment of police forces throughout various parts of the Kingdom during the coming period. It also urged American citizens to remain closely informed of urgent developments issued by the Jordanian Public Security Directorate, stressing that it will continue to carefully monitor and evaluate the situation to issue any subsequent updates when necessary.

This exceptional measure comes following the bloody attack that occurred on Friday in the village of Hamoud in Karak Governorate. Which, according to data from the Jordanian Public Security Directorate, resulted in 7 deaths and the injury of 27 others receiving the necessary medical care.

In the same context, the Jordanian security services continue their intensive efforts to pursue the perpetrators of the attack, after cordoning off the area of the incident and opening a comprehensive investigation to uncover its circumstances and the parties behind it, in conjunction with raising the state of security alert and strengthening guards at sensitive sites in various regions of the Kingdom.
