German club Bayern Munich announced that the health condition of its Belgian coach, Vincent Kompany, has become stable, after he suffered a sudden illness that caused him to lose consciousness, on Friday, while watching the reserve team’s training, which required his immediate transfer to the hospital.
In the same context, the club’s sporting director, Max Eberl, explained on Saturday that Kompany will undergo medical observation for a period of several days until the necessary examinations are completed and the exact causes of the health condition are known, pointing out that his absence from leading the team may extend for weeks.
Eberle revealed that the 40-year-old Belgian coach had been suffering in the past few days from a viral infection that affected his health, and later developed into a state of fainting inside the Bavarian club’s training center.
The sports director stressed that the top priority at this stage is Kompany’s full recovery, stressing that the club’s management will not announce the date of his expected return until the final results of the medical examinations appear.
On the field level, assistant coach Aaron Danks will assume the team’s technical leadership duties throughout Kompany’s absence, starting with the anticipated confrontation against Freiburg, on Sunday, in the German League championship.
These developments come as Bayern Munich leads the Bundesliga table with 14 points, at a time of great public anticipation and media interest for the return of its coach to the bench.
