Sony retracted its previous pledge to support the “Xperia 10 VI” phone, which was launched in May 2024 with the “Android 14” operating system, confirming that it will not receive the “Android 17” system update that was scheduled as part of the system’s three major updates plan.
In an official notice sent to users of the device, the company attributed this decision to technical limitations related to the configuration of the internal storage space. She explained that a comprehensive engineering evaluation, which included conducting actual tests to run the new version on the phone, proved that the device would not be able to provide an ideal and stable user experience after the upgrade.
In the same context, Sony issued an official apology to its customers for this decline, while committing itself to continuing to provide periodic security updates for the device for a full period of four years.
The company concluded by stressing that this decision is exceptional and is limited exclusively to the “Xperia 10 VI” phone, and will not apply to any other models in the “Xperia” series of phones.
