Google announced a system of advanced security features for Android phones, supported by artificial intelligence technologies, with the aim of early detection of fraudulent messages and suspicious links, and securing personal data against hacking and theft attempts.
The new updates include employing Gemini models within the Google Messages application to analyze conversations received from unknown numbers, and monitor complex fraud patterns that traditional methods are unable to detect.
In the same context, the “Gemini Nano” model relies on examining electronic links and assessing their risks before opening them, and this includes new websites that have not yet been registered on the official ban lists of harmful websites.
The company has also developed a feature to automatically hide sensitive information, such as passwords and banking data, during screen sharing, which is scheduled to be launched during the month of October for “Android 15” devices and later versions.
In terms of protecting communications, Google is working on developing a mechanism to prevent applications from activating the secret call forwarding feature, which is expected to be available for Pixel phones and a number of other devices in early December.
The company indicated that its current security systems monitor more than 5 million suspicious calls and messages per month.
Google explained that these features will be introduced gradually according to the type of device and geographical region, noting that benefiting from some of the new protection tools requires their manual activation by users.
