Lebanon places the file of reconstruction and attracting investments at the top of its economic priorities, aiming to attract capital for the utilities, roads, airports, and energy sectors. In this context, the Minister of Economy and Trade, Amer Al-Bassat, stressed that restoring investor confidence begins exclusively with implementing the required reform package.
In statements he made to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of his participation in the “Investobia Bridge 2026” event, Al-Bassat pointed out that the timing of the conference coincides with major global economic transformations that include the technology sectors, supply chains, and the movement of trade, which gives participants an exceptional opportunity to discuss these variables and discuss the investment opportunities associated with them.
The Minister stressed the strength of the relations between Lebanon and the UAE and its understanding of the Lebanese needs, stressing that the government is fully aware of the necessity of moving forward with the reform workshop as a basic condition for opening the door to huge investments, and expressing his aspiration for the participation of investors and public and private sector institutions in the opportunities available for the reconstruction phase.
It is noteworthy that World Bank estimates indicate that Lebanon’s total needs for recovery and reconstruction amount to about $11 billion. It is distributed between public funding ranging between $3 and $5 billion, and expected support from the private sector ranging between $6 and $8 billion, concentrated especially in the housing, trade, industry, and tourism sectors. Infrastructure needs – including energy, transportation, water, municipal and public services – are estimated at $1 billion in public funding, while actual damage to critical infrastructure and buildings is estimated at $1.1 billion.
