The intensity of Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon escalated today, as the region witnessed a series of air strikes and artillery shelling targeting several towns, including repeated targeting of a commercial building and rescue teams from certain death.
Field observations reported that the outskirts of the towns of Zawtar al-Sharqiya and Mifdoun were subjected to intermittent artillery shelling coming from the Israeli artillery base in Tal al-Nahhas. In a remarkable development, a joint team including ambulance teams from the “House of Students,” the “Islamic Health Authority,” and the “Nabatieh Ambulance” survived a raid carried out by an Apache helicopter that targeted a commercial building on the Mifdoun-Shoukin main road. The second raid occurred while emergency teams were at the site to conduct a field examination, following a first raid that targeted the same building less than half an hour ago. No human casualties were recorded as a result of the two raids, while the damage was limited to the material of the shops and residential apartments inside the building.
This bombing comes as an extension of a continuous escalation that began since the dawn hours. Israeli warplanes launched raids on the towns of Kafr Tibnit, the vicinity of Mifdoun, and Nabatieh Al-Fawqa. This coincided with an artillery bombardment that continued until five-thirty in the morning and targeted Doha Kafr Rumman, Wadi Saluki, towards Toulin, and the outskirts of Mifdoun.
Yesterday, the south witnessed a series of attacks that included carrying out bombings in the towns of Mays al-Jabal and Masha` al-Mansouri, sweeping operations with machine guns towards Qantara, as well as artillery shelling that targeted the outskirts of Baraashit and Wadi al-Saluki. The air strikes also targeted the outskirts of Al-Khiyam, Al-Mansouri, and the Shanouh farm south of Kafr Shuba, coinciding with the incursion of an Israeli force consisting of four to five vehicles towards the outskirts of Halta and Kafar Shuba, which included a machine gun sweep and the firing of flares.
