President Joseph Aoun sent a cable of congratulations to the General Directorate of State Security on the occasion of the forty-first anniversary of its founding, praising the agency’s role in protecting stability and preserving public funds as an integral part of the project of building a state of law and institutions.
President Aoun extended his special congratulations to the Director General of State Security, Major General Edgar Lowndes, and to the officers and other employees of the apparatus, expressing his pride in the pivotal role that State Security has played since its inception, stressing that it has proven, especially during the past two years, its ability to regain its health and its natural role with confidence and ability despite previous attempts to limit and marginalize it.
The President of the Republic explained that the General Directorate of State Security has regained its position as a major “safety valve” in combating corruption, exposing its networks, and controlling abuses that threaten public funds and the rights of citizens, stressing that these tasks fall at the heart of the process of building a state of institutions that hold perpetrators accountable, safeguard public funds, and restore citizen confidence in its administrations.
In another context, President Aoun remembered the martyrs of State Security, directing a tribute to their pure souls following their martyrdom as a result of the Israeli aggression that targeted their headquarters in Nabatieh while they were performing their national duty.
At the conclusion of the occasion, the President of the Republic affirmed the state’s commitment to continue supporting the General Directorate of State Security and enhancing its potential and capabilities, so that it remains, along with other military and security institutions, the basic pillar of protecting the country, its people, and those residing on its lands.
