The Ministry of Education and Higher Education clarified the truth about what is being circulated on some news sites and social media regarding the fact that about 400 children remain out of school, as a result of the closure of the “Al-Farabi Public School” and the “Dahr Al-Mughr Public School” in Tripoli, stressing that this information is incorrect and that all the students have been transferred since the last academic year to the nearby “Ibn Sina” School, and that “there is no child on the street.”
The Ministry stated that the process of transferring students came within the framework of its plan to secure a school seat for every learner in Lebanon within safe school buildings, noting that the decision to evacuate the two schools was due to an imminent danger posed by adjacent buildings classified as vulnerable to collapse, in addition to a legal dispute. The building owner demanded the return of the property that had been rented for about three years, and won a lawsuit in this regard.
The Ministry indicated that it had received a letter from the Cases Authority to implement the Court of Appeal ruling to vacate the property and organize a delivery and delivery report to avoid arranging additional rent fees from the state. It confirmed that it is in the process of implementing the judicial ruling and handing over the building to its owners, in addition to transferring the remaining school equipment.
At the conclusion of its statement, the Ministry of Education called on the media to obtain information from its official sources, and appealed to the people not to approach the damaged building for the sake of their safety. This clarification comes in light of the sensitivity of the issue of school buildings in Tripoli and Al-Qubba, where precautionary measures are being taken to prevent exposing students and educational staff to any structural dangers.
