A liquefied petroleum gas tanker was involved in a maritime accident while exiting the Strait of Hormuz, in a new incident that highlights the escalation of security challenges in one of the most vital global energy corridors.
The British Maritime Trade Operations Authority stated, in a statement carried by Reuters, that it had received a report stating that the ship had been exposed to damage resulting from its collision with debris resulting from “projectiles of unknown origin,” without the authority clarifying the nature of those projectiles or the party responsible for them.
In the same context, the captain of the tanker confirmed the safety of all its crew members and that no human injuries were recorded, in addition to the absence of any environmental impact as a result of the accident, indicating that the ship maintained its operational capacity and continued its journey towards the next port of call.
This incident comes amid a noticeable increase in the degree of security sensitivity within the Strait of Hormuz, which is gaining great strategic importance as the main artery for the movement of energy tankers and international trade.
