Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that the explosion of a fuel tanker on the Sanandaj-Hamedan road, which resulted in deaths and injuries, caused “deep sadness,” expressing his condolences to the families of the victims and the people of the Kurdistan region.
In a blog post on the “X” platform, Pezeshkian stressed the need to give priority to providing immediate care to the injured and supporting the families of the victims, in addition to conducting a comprehensive investigation to determine the causes of the accident.
According to the official Iranian “IRNA” agency, the accident occurred on Saturday evening near the Sanandaj-Hamedan highway, where a traffic accident led to a fire in a fuel truck and a number of other vehicles.
The accident resulted in the death of 11 people and the injury of 7 others.
In this context, the director of the National Petroleum Products Distribution Company in the Kurdistan Region confirmed that investigations are still ongoing to determine the main causes of the accident, noting that the results will be announced immediately after the official statement is issued by the traffic police.
The accident comes amid extensive official follow-up, in light of the high death toll and ongoing investigations to determine the circumstances that led to the outbreak of the fire and its spread to other vehicles.
