The Egyptian handball team won the gold medal in the Mediterranean Games held in the Italian city of Taranto, after defeating Greece 31-29 in the final match, on Monday evening.
The Egyptian team had begun its campaign by defeating Portugal 38-27, then Kosovo 42-21, before defeating Italy 25-22 and claiming top spot in its group with a full score, while it surpassed Algeria in the semi-finals.
The Egyptian team raised its country’s tally in the tournament to 39 medals, with 13 gold, 13 silver, and 13 bronze, so that Egypt continues to lead the Arab countries.
The twentieth edition of the Mediterranean Games will be held in Taranto until September 3, with the participation of 3,803 athletes from 26 countries, while the Egyptian delegation participates in 23 sports.
Egypt ranks sixth historically in the number of medals at the Mediterranean Games, with 620 medals, including 156 gold, 209 silver, and 255 bronze.
