Operations to extinguish the fire that broke out in the Batroun barrens, near the Tannourine Cedar Reserve and on its outskirts, continues, amid intense efforts to prevent the fire from reaching inside the reserve.
The General Directorate of Civil Defense announced that teams from about 10 centers are participating in the suppression operations, with the support of the 2nd Artillery Regiment and Lebanese Army helicopters.
She confirmed that the fire did not extend into the Tannourine Cedar Reserve, while elements were working to cordon off the fire and prevent it from reaching the reserve and neighboring areas.
Firefighting teams face difficulties in the field due to the rugged terrain and the inability of vehicles to easily reach the fire site, which led to a number of vehicles being slightly damaged while carrying out the mission.
During the suppression operations, a member of the Civil Defense was injured and fractured as a result of the explosion of an old mine left over from the war, and he was transferred to a hospital to receive treatment.
Suppression operations are still continuing at the site.
