“Lebanon Debate”
The residency file of the former Iranian ambassador to Beirut, Muhammad Reza Shibani, was resolved after he submitted to the secretariat of the General Directorate of Public Security an application for a residence visa on Lebanese territory, based on a valid Iranian passport.
After submitting the application in accordance with legal procedures, the Director General of Public Security, Major General Hassan Shuqair Shibani, granted a residence permit for a period of 6 months, based on Legislative Decree No. 10188 issued on July 18, 1962, specifically Article 21 thereof.
This residency does not grant Shibani any diplomatic status.
This development comes after Shibani’s residency in Lebanon expired, while the diplomatic path was closed to him after Foreign Minister Youssef Raji refused to renew his residency in his diplomatic capacity.
Lebanon Debate information indicated that the legal option available to him was to apply for a regular Iranian passport to General Security, so that his application would be processed in accordance with the rules applied to foreigners.
By submitting the application and granting him a six-month residency permit, Shibani has regularized his legal status in Lebanon without any diplomatic status.
