Salam discusses with India the strengthening of bilateral relations and the issue of sabbaticals for Lebanese professors

On Friday afternoon, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam received the Indian Deputy Minister of External Affairs and Secretary for Passports, Visas and Overseas Indian Affairs, Sripriya Ranganathan, in the presence of the Indian Ambassador to Lebanon, Muhammad Nour Rahman Sheikh, where they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen and develop them.

Ranganathan explained after the meeting that the discussions dealt with long-term Lebanese-Indian relations, in addition to exchanging views on regional and international issues, noting that the meeting was “very good and fruitful.”

In another context, Salam received a delegation of contract professors at the Lebanese University headed by Dr. Mustafa Ragheb, where he discussed with them the file of implementing the decision issued on February 17 regarding the sabbatical of professors.

Ragheb explained after the meeting that the first batch of professors is supposed to join on the first of September, but the decree specifying the names of the professors included in the first and second batches has not yet been issued, pointing out that the Prime Minister promised to present the file to the cabinet session scheduled for the third or tenth of September.

The discussion of the sabbatical file comes in light of the demands of contract professors to resolve their academic and employment statuses, in a way that guarantees the stability of work at the Lebanese University and improves educational conditions there.
