A new feature from Google: Tell Discover what you want and it will rearrange your content

Google is preparing to launch a new feature in its official application that allows users to customize the “Discover” suggestion feed by describing the type of content they want to see, through a conversational interface supported by artificial intelligence.

Google will begin rolling out the feature gradually over the coming days, as artificial intelligence will work to modify the content of the “Discover” feed according to the user’s preferences, while retaining these preferences to benefit from them in future visits.

The new feature appears within the three-dot menu in the “Discover” feed, and when selected, an interface similar to chatbots opens, through which the user can describe the topics and types of content he wants to appear.

The Assistant confirms the user’s choices and indicates the types of content it will prioritize. If the preferences are not fully understood, you can add more details and modify the request, before clicking on the “Update your feed” option to apply the changes.

The appearance of content in “Google Discover” currently depends on user activity through the “Google” search engine and the company’s various applications, with the aim of suggesting appropriate articles and content. But the new feature gives the user greater direct control over the nature of what appears in front of him.

The step comes in light of an increasing trend among digital platforms and services to use artificial intelligence to personalize suggestions, while giving users more accurate tools to determine their interests.

In a related context, Google announced an update to the “Google News” application on Android devices, allowing the user to choose the topics he wants to listen to in the daily audio summaries.

The company also updated the “Preferred Sources” feature, which allows the user to view more content from his favorite news sources under the “Top Stories” section in the search, in addition to artificial intelligence summaries “AI Overviews” and artificial intelligence mode “AI Mode.”

Under the update, website owners can now add an interactive button titled “Preferred Sources,” which allows the reader to quickly add the website to his favorite sources list without leaving the web page.
