
Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, Paris Saint-Germain’s goalkeeper, has secured a place on the list of the best goalkeepers in the world, according to ESPN’s ranking, with him ranked tenth.
The network praised the Russian goalkeeper’s ability to save penalty kicks, citing his performance in the Intercontinental Cup final against Flamengo, when he succeeded in stopping 4 out of 5 kicks during the penalty shootout, contributing to Saint-Germain’s crowning the title.
Spaniard David Raya, Arsenal’s goalkeeper, topped the rankings, ahead of Belgian Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid’s star, while Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma, Manchester City’s goalkeeper, came in third place.
Safonov joined Paris Saint-Germain from Krasnodar in 2024, before becoming the first goalkeeper for the French team in December 2025.
