After the massacre... Ansar shouts: Who protects our people?

The Ansar Municipality denounced in the strongest terms the Israeli raid that targeted the town, which led to the death of martyrs and wounded, holding the Lebanese government its national responsibility to protect citizens and urgent action by international bodies to stop the attacks on the south.

The municipality said, in a statement: “Praise be to God always and forever for the safety of everyone,” denouncing “in the strongest terms the Israeli aggression that targeted our town, targeting safe residential homes, which led to the deaths and injuries of members of safe families, in a blatant attack on civilians and our people in the south.”

The municipality offered its deepest condolences to the families of the martyrs, wishing a speedy recovery for the wounded, and stressing that “targeting homes and civilians is a flagrant violation of humanitarian and international laws and norms.”

The Ansar Municipality held the Lebanese government “its full national responsibility to protect citizens,” calling for urgent action by international bodies to stop the attacks, and to work with all available political and diplomatic means to deter them and protect the people of the southern towns.

She stressed that “the security of our people and their right to live in safety must be a priority,” calling on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and work to put an end to the attacks.

The municipality concluded its statement by saying: “May God have mercy on our martyrs, heal our wounded, and protect our people, our town, and the south from all harm.”

The position of the Ansar Municipality comes after the Israeli raid that targeted a house on the outskirts of the town at dawn today, and the Health Emergency Operations Center of the Ministry of Public Health announced that its final death toll reached 7 martyrs, including 3 children and 2 women.

The targeting of Ansar came as part of a widespread wave of Israeli escalation in the Nabatieh region during the dawn hours, which included intense air strikes on Ali Al-Taher Heights and Nabatieh Al-Fawqa, in conjunction with artillery shelling and sweeping operations with machine guns in a number of southern regions.

The Nabatieh area also witnessed a displacement movement due to the escalation, at a time when cautious calm returned to the south in the morning after a night and dawn of raids, bombing, and intense Israeli overflights.
