The Maronite World Union: Protection of religious pluralism is a guarantee for survival

The Maronite World Federation issued a statement in which it considered that the US Senator Graham’s statement from Baabda Palace about the push towards the conclusion of a defensive agreement between Lebanon and the United States is an important step to protect religious pluralism in Lebanon and ensure its continuity.

The statement stressed that Lebanon represents the “first homeland of the Maronites and their spiritual and political reference”, and through its constitutionality freedom of belief and providing a haven for civilized and religious diversity in the region, despite its attempts to erase it through wars.
He added: “Understanding one of the pillars of the American Congress to the need to protect pluralism in Lebanon, reflects a deep awareness of the value of this unique model in the Middle East, which calls for the signing of a joint defense agreement that secures the continuity of the Lebanese regime and protecting its components.”
The Union called on the Americans of Lebanese origin to “support this initiative and push towards achieving it quickly,” stressing that the proposed agreement “protects all components and strengthens its presence in the face of existential challenges facing Lebanon.”
