The Swiss national team reserved its place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, after defeating Colombia 4-3 on penalties, after the original and extra time ended in a goalless draw at the end of the round of 16 competitions.

With this victory, the Swiss team completed the group of qualifiers for the quarter-finals, and set a date with the title holders, Argentina, which had surpassed Egypt 3-2.

The confrontation between Switzerland and Argentina will be held on July 11 in Kansas City, with the winner meeting in the semi-finals with the qualifier from England and Norway.

With this qualification, the Swiss team equaled its best achievements in the history of the World Cup, having previously reached the quarter-finals in the 1934, 1938 and 1954 editions.

Switzerland also succeeded in breaking the knot in the round of 16, after stopping at this stage in the past three editions of the tournament.
