An American official revealed to Al Jazeera that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, on Friday, held contacts with both the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as part of efforts aimed at strengthening the ceasefire in Lebanon and advancing the course of the talks.

According to the American official, the contacts made by Rubio came in the context of working to stabilize the calm and prevent the expansion of escalation, in conjunction with increasing American diplomatic movement on the Lebanese file.

The official indicated that the US Central Command has begun a monitoring mechanism in Lebanon, with the aim of providing US officials with accurate information regarding developments in the fighting there.

These data come at a time when American and regional efforts are intensifying to stabilize the ceasefire in Lebanon, amid anticipation of the course of the upcoming talks and whether they will succeed in transforming the field truce into more stable arrangements, including stopping violations and advancing the discussion about Israeli withdrawal from the Lebanese regions.
