In a post on the “X” platform, former Prime Minister Saad Hariri recalled the martyrdom anniversary of the martyr Mufti Hassan Khaled, praising his national and Islamic role and his positions calling for unity, moderation, and rejection of sedition.

Hariri stressed that the martyr Mufti Hassan Khaled represented “a great national and Islamic figure who paid the price with his life for Lebanon’s unity and rejection of strife,” noting that his voice “remained the voice of moderation, Arabism, and coexistence,” and that his approach will remain “a school of wisdom and national reconciliation.”

He added: “May God Almighty have mercy on the martyr Mufti, and may God protect Lebanon from all evil.”

Martyr Mufti Hassan Khaled is considered one of the most prominent religious and national authorities who played a pivotal role during the years of the Lebanese war, where he was known for his positions rejecting internal division and his adherence to the unity of the state and institutions. He was martyred on May 16, 1989, following a bombing that targeted his convoy in Beirut, a moment that was a great shock to the Lebanese at the time.

The memory of his martyrdom is still recalled annually in political and religious circles, as he is one of the most prominent symbols of Islamic moderation and calls for dialogue and coexistence in Lebanon.
