During the keynote speech at the Android Show I/O Edition 2026 event, Google announced extensive improvements to the process of transitioning from iOS devices to the Android 17 system, with the aim of facilitating data transfer and making it more integrated and smooth between the two systems.

This step seeks to address one of the most prominent obstacles that users face when moving from Apple phones to Android devices, as data transfer was previously partial and in many cases led to the loss of part of the information and settings.

Significant expansion of data transferred

According to what the company revealed, the new update will provide the ability to transfer a wide range of data directly from iPhone to Android, including accessibility settings, alarms, and free applications with their data, in addition to contacts, call history, and email accounts.

The transfer process also includes data such as the eSIM, files, photos, videos, messages, notes, passwords, wallpapers, and WhatsApp application data, in addition to a complete transfer of the home screen layout.

Limited launch in the first phase

Despite this expansion, Google clarified that the feature will not be available for all devices at launch, as it will be available first on Samsung and Pixel phones, and will be rolled out later to the rest of Android devices.

It is expected that this feature will be launched in conjunction with the Android 17 system and the One UI 9 interface, and will appear first on devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 during next July.

Gradual rollout later

The company confirmed that the expansion of the feature’s availability will take place gradually after the first phase, as part of a plan aimed at improving the user experience and alleviating the complications associated with moving between operating systems.

In parallel, Samsung has already begun its beta program for the One UI 9.0 interface, allowing some users to have an early experience with the new transfer tools before the official launch.

This development comes in light of the intense competition between mobile operating systems, as companies tend to make the transition between platforms easier and more attractive for users.
