The British news agency (PA Media) has learned that English football club Manchester United is preparing to hold talks with Michael Carrick regarding the possibility of him continuing to lead the team after the end of the current season.

Carrick (44 years old) has exceeded the expectations of many since he took over the job temporarily last January until the end of the season, after Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim’s experience with the team nicknamed the “Red Devils” ended unsuccessfully.

Manchester United’s performance witnessed a clear improvement in terms of results and player morale under Carrick’s leadership, as the team secured qualification to the Champions League three rounds before the end of the season, and is also close to clinching third place in the English Premier League.

This development put the former midfielder and team captain in a strong position to continue in his position, with his future being discussed with the club management before the end of the season.

Despite the administration’s search for other options, Carrick has long been viewed as the most prominent candidate to assume the position permanently, amid public support from a number of the team’s players.

Carrick is expected to appear before the media on Friday, before the last match at Old Trafford this season against Nottingham Forest, next Sunday, a confrontation that may witness the farewell of Brazilian midfield star Casemiro to the club’s fans.
