Kafarhazir Environmental Committee: We refuse to restart the operation of the soil quarries and call for their transfer to the eastern chain

The Kfarhazir Environmental Committee sent an open letter to the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, and to the relevant ministers, stating: “We affirm our absolute refusal to re-operate the quarries of soil companies in any of the villages of Koura, especially in the protected lands of Badbhoun located above groundwater, and the lands of Kfarhazir that are completely classified as lands for building villas and palaces.”

She continued: “In view of the enormous damage caused by these quarries located between springs and olive groves, near the homes of the Majidel neighborhood, in the sanctuary of the Martqala Church, and on the course of the Asfour River, and after the serious spread of deaths and cases of cancer, heart disease and chest diseases, we declare that restarting the quarries and ovens of carcinogenic soil companies constitutes a war crime against those remaining in Chekka, Kfarhazir, Badbhoun and Koura, and the government of Nawaf Salam, which legalized this crime with its decisions No. 16, 9/6 and 3-5, considering that all of these decisions are in violation of the law, as are the quarries of soil companies.”

She added: “Twenty-seven pages carry hundreds of signatures of the people who reject the quarries and ovens of death. No one can ignore them, and no one, whoever he may be, can decide for them or uproot them from their homes, their land, and their roots.”

The committee called for “moving these quarries to the Eastern Range in implementation of Decree 8803, banning the use of coal and petroleum, and starting to import cement to rebuild what the Israeli enemy destroyed and what the earth companies destroyed, as Syria has done since last year, without pollution, destruction, cancer, fraud and monopoly, and at half the monopoly price at which the earth companies sell cement to the Lebanese people.”
