In a remarkable escalation in Israeli military rhetoric, Defense Minister Yisrael Katz hinted at expanding the scope of operations against Hezbollah, speaking about a comprehensive targeting of the military structure, and at the same time indicating the possibility of a new move on the Iranian scene.
Katz said that Israel “will destroy Hezbollah’s infrastructure underground and above it, as we did in Gaza,” stressing that the operations will affect “the infrastructure in the security zone up to the yellow line in southern Lebanon.”
He added: “We may soon be asked to move again to ensure the achievement of our goals in Iran,” noting that “the strikes on Iran have delayed them for years in all fields.”
These statements come in light of the escalation of tensions on Lebanon’s southern front, and the continuation of exchanged strikes, amid repeated warnings of the expansion of the confrontation. It also intersects with a broader regional context that is witnessing escalating tension between Israel and Iran, in light of the faltering diplomatic paths and increasing indications of the possibility of escalation.
